Tom Van de Wiele is a full professor at the Center for Microbial Ecology and Technology from Ghent University. The research emphasis of his team is the study of host-microbe interactions through the development of innovative in vitro enabling technologies that mimic specific microenvironments of the human body. The generated knowledge complements in vivo observations by providing mechanistic data. It also offers the opportunity to conduct mode of action studies and design novel preventive and therapeutic strategies to steer the microbiome in a health promoting direction through diet, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and live biotherapeutic products.

Wim Ceelen is a surgical oncologist with an interest in advanced or recurrent GI cancer, soft tissue retroperitoneal cancers, ovarian cancer, and peritoneal metastasis. He Ieads lead the Experimental Surgery lab at Ghent University, which has between 4 and 8 PhD students, one postdoc, and 4 support staff. We perform clinical, translational, and basic research in the fields of intraperitoneal drug delivery, novel treatments of peritoneal metastasis, biophysical properties of cancer tissue, and lymphatic metastasis in colon cancer.

Emmeric Tanghe is a part-time professor at Ghent University and imec. His field of research is computational neuroscience. His group builds biophysical models of neurons and neuronal networks that are modulated by neurostimulation techniques (electromagnetic, optogenetic, ultrasonic). The goal is to find stimulation paradigms and protocols that, to a certain degree, can reverse the pathologic firing behavior caused by neurological diseases. We collaborate with preclinical research groups for in-vitro and in-vivo validation of our models.

Wout Joseph is professor in the domain of Experimental Characterization of wireless communication systems (since 2009) and IMEC PI (since 2017). His professional interests are electromagnetic field exposure assessment, in-body electromagnetic field modelling, electromagnetic medical applications, computational neuromodelling , propagation for wireless communication systems, IoT, antennas and calibration.

Our lab leverages the power of chemistry, biotechnology and nanotechnology to engineer the immune system at better responding to internal threats such as cancer and external threats such as viral pathogens and lethal drug substances. In this context we aim to intervene at different levels in the process of innate immune activation, antigen presentation and the generation of adaptive immunity to clear or protect the host from a specific threat. 

Hendrik Feys is a Principal Investigator at the Belgian Red Cross Flanders Transfusion Research Center. The center has a research focus on blood derived products and their applicability in regenerative medicine. Hendrik  is a visiting professor at the Department of Diagnostics Sciences at Ghent University.

Director of the Lab of General Biochemistry & Physical Pharmacy at UGent. Served as dean of his Faculty and member of Board of Directors of UGent. Has been a Guest Professor at various universities in Belgium and China and is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Controlled Release. His research is at the interface between drug delivery, biophysics and material sciences.

Prof. Jeroen Missinne is part-time professor at Ghent University and also employed at CMST, an imec-affiliated lab at Ghent University. His research involves laser fabrication technology, optical sensors and flexible/stretchable photonics and electronics.

Frank Speleman is professor at the Department of Biomolecular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. His main focus is the study of perturbed gene regulatory processes in paediatric cancer, more specifically neuroblastoma and T-ALL.
