SUMMARY:
Our research group WAVES has a decades-long experience in full-wave electromagnetic-field simulations that include the human body. These simulations are done in the context of human exposure assessment, performance analysis of wireless body area networks, and evaluation of the in-body electromagnetic field generated by ingestible and insertable medical devices (including neurostimulation devices). WAVES couples in-body electromagnetic simulations with biophysically inspired computational models of neuronal excitability, for the purpose of quantifying intended or unintended neurostimulation. Wout Joseph’s professional interests are electromagnetic field exposure assessment, in-body electromagnetic field modelling, electromagnetic medical applications, Wireless body area networks, Human Safety Guidelines via Nerve Activation Intercomparison, modelling of neuronal stimulation electrodes. -
