  • SUMMARY:
My research is focused on otogenetics and otology/audiology in general. Audiological and vestibular phenotyping of several forms of genetic, syndromal and non-syndromal hearing loss (eg osteogenesis imperfecta, Stickler syndrome, KCNQ4, COCH, DFNA5, DFNA13…), congenital cytomegalovirus related inner ear disease and cleft palate are topics of interest. Studying these pathologies, increases our insight in genotype-phenotype correlations by which we hope to achieve greater knowledge in the pathophysiology of these diseases. Moreover, this knowledge can help us explore and define gene therapies in order to treat audiological and vestibular pathologies.

Els De Leenheer is an otorhinolaryngologist with main research focus on genetic hearing loss.
