  • SUMMARY:
Therapeutic strategies based on nucleic acids have been introduced. As years ago, when recombinant proteins began to be developed as drugs, with nucleic acids we are again on the brink of a revolution in drug development. The lack of delivery technologies is a major bottleneck for their breakthrough. Our research group represents a rather exceptional team of intensively collaborating scientists developing delivery technologies for nucleic acids and proteins.

Director of the Lab of General Biochemistry & Physical Pharmacy at UGent. Served as dean of his Faculty and member of Board of Directors of UGent. Has been a Guest Professor at various universities in Belgium and China and is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Controlled Release. His research is at the interface between drug delivery, biophysics and material sciences.
